Prayer
Tonight was a milestone for my little (ok big family:). Every night we read from "The Book" children's bible. It is basically the Bible in its entirety with each chapter reworded into story style. During the school year #1 and #2 attend a Bible group called Good News Club. This club requires them to read a page in a workbook and answer a question. Most nights we add to the events by saying out High and Low for the day. Sometimes we do that at dinner and sometimes we forget altogether. Tonight was the best of all.
As we finished reading our page and chapter I decided to add family prayer time. We talked about who we should pray for and #1 said a boy who is in the hospital and another girl who hasn't been at school. #2 wants to pray for her friend Kayla who is going on vacation, and #3 wants to pray for his new friend Eli from school. #1 has accepted the Holy Spirit over the Summer so I was explaining to everyone that while someone prays you can speak in tongues quietly or just close your eyes and think about what the person is praying. #2 asks about speaking in tongues and I explain the process. #1 joins in for a moment but he has always been nervous. #2 instantly begins speaking in tongues. We say a prayer together and talk about the Holy Spirit speaking through you and your own prayer language. Then we all take turns praying. The sincerity in each of their voices for their friends was wonderful and kind.
#2 prays last and she speaks for the safety and happiness of her friend, but then turns to thank God for her baby sister that she wished so long for. She is thankful that she is sweet and loves her. Tears came to my eyes. She went on for a minute or so and then turned to me. The entire time I prayed and her siblings as well, she spoke in tongues like a pro.
These are the moments when I realize maybe just maybe I am getting part of this parenting gig right;)
