#1 was born with an extra finger. Apparently this is common but many are simply extra skin and no bone. He has a bone but it does in fact share the knuckle with the pinky finger. In many ways it is not perfect but it how he was made. While there is a delicate balance between living in this world and conforming to it we never really had the notion to get it removed. Sure insurance would pay for it, funny because it is purely cosmetic. Yet it seems well unnecessary. Years ago I recieved much judgement for "torturing" him as he ages. But in that I knew in my heart it wasn't for the best. He endured SO much in his short time with more invasive procedures.
Anyway, 10yrs later we visited a surgeon who verified it was growing normally and not impacting the function of his hand. Now an outpatient procedure I allowed my son to make the choice himself. Wise boy that he is he said, "Nah." We taught him from day one that it made him special in a good way and he didn't need to question that. When he entered K I was a teacher there giving him a celebrity persona. Plus I had laid the ground work of how cool he and his finger were. No one questioned anything at all. Being the kid he has always been he believes everyone should like him and clearly doesn't get why someone wouldn't even when rejection happens. He has even spun the negative behaviors into a game where he willingly chases those who act like they are scared ending with everyone laughing and forgetting why the game began. I wasn't so certain of the ordeal but he rolled with it like nothing was ever wrong.
Yep, that kid was uniquely formed for a divine purpose and though I don't know what it will look like things like this remind me God does:)
