T-ball and golf carts
Today has been a very interesting one at the least. Late in the afternoon, one that flowed nicely with all 6 kids with me during the day, my Father informed me that "someone" wrecked the golf cart. Wrecked? I ask. Yes, wrecked. Well, apparently yesterday when my niece and my oldest DS were supposed to be putting the golf cart away they detoured. My son was driving and by the looks of the front of the golf cart, they hit a tree going full speed ahead. I found them just sitting in it, probably contemplating their next move, and hurried them along not questioning the delay. The compounding joy is that neither told me until caught, my DS said his cousin was driving when first asked by G (Grandpa). Oh, how I am not prepared to punish an older child. Gone are the days when spanking and/or taking away electronics is enough. How I ask do you get to their heart? I know the pressing need to nip this in the bud now. The teen years are all too close.
To my surprise t-ball turned out to be the highlight. When one kid has a less-than-stellar moment another can pick you up. First, let me preface that it is an unfair advantage of my 2nd child to my first. My first was born early with many delays, surgeries, and, general struggles that didn't and still don't allow him to excel in athletics. My 2nd is All American Girl. She can play any game, and do anything fairly quickly. She catches on quickly and sticks with it more than most. She won the most improved dancer in her previous dance academy which is only given out to an older and younger girl for the entire studio. Throughout last year and this year she has had a shining moment or two, being one of only a few girls helped her to stand out. Tonight was her last game of the season, it was a doubleheader at that. This coach does not assign positions on the field it is just first come first serve, except for catcher. She has picked up that the faster you are to get on the field the more likely you get your first choice. She started off as a pitcher (they don't actually pitch in t-ball). Next, she moved to 1st base and stayed there until the end of the 1st game. During the 2nd game, she had to go to the bathroom and missed getting to 1st first. But, she ended up on 2nd base and nearly caught a pop fly. It hit her arm rather than the glove and she just missed getting the other hand on it. She remained on first the rest of the 2nd game too.
Collectively she hit off the tee one time, even hit all the way to the outfield for what could have been a double, possibly triple. She made 3 outs total. She was the star player, perfect strangers were yelling great job number 12:) What a proud mama I am.
Back at home, the moment is short-lived once we share with Daddy and she heads to bed. Back to reality, what to do with number 1......
