Valentine's day

SO Valentine's day....

This day happens to be my absolute hands down, no questions asked favorite day of the year. I love all roses, most kinds of candy (except some of the chocolates in the boxes),pink, red, teddy bears, hearts and the subject of love. Yep, where else can you find all of these things at once but this terribly commercial holiday. I know those of you who are not in a relationship, or even those in a struggling one at the moment may beg to differ on the day. But if you have known me prior to children, then you are aware I like teasing and saying one thing. It is my world and therefore this day is simply about my favorite things:)

I can't say that I have any terribly romantic stories to tell about gifts I have been given. My parents once gave me a heart shaped ruby ring I bring out around this time of year, a man I was once engaged to gave me terribly small diamond chip which I exchanged to a ruby ring later. Truthfully, the best gift I get each year is from a friend not my husband, mostly because I limit my husband's financial options, and partially because my husband has no clue how to be romantic.
Otherwise there are no fabulous memories to quote. Instead I grab the horse by the reins and make my own.

In my classroom the entire day revolved around hearts and treats. At home the same is becoming true. This year on Saturday (the day before Vday the 13th when Daddy was home) I made pink heart shaped pancakes with grape sparkling cider in wine glasses of course. That would be a tradition handed down from my mom. We had heart shaped grilled cheese and "love" punch (cherry). Hubby made dinner so no "love" things there :)

A month before Vday we decorated love boxes (mini mailboxes) and each week made things to fill them with to practice thinking of others. Nice try but bombed the week before vday. Thankfully a little spending money revived it for the big day. We made valentine magic eight balls, played seek and find using mini hearts, and tic tac toe with valentine m&m's. Today we had our pictures taken in Valentine themed clothes, and had heart shaped homemade pizza, with love sticks (carrot sticks) and pink colored dip. Yep we lived, ate and breathed Vday.

For the kids school I made popcorn container shaped papers attached popcorn with a saying about being a pop ular teacher/counselor/nurse/librarian etc. We traced hands and stuck to little hand lotion that said you deserve a hand for classroom teachers. We mailed child produced bracelets to family members and a close friend, tea bags with a little poem to friends and family along with pictures. Yes we went above and beyond any other year. Well last year I began the Vday family packs but everything else was bigger.

Did my kids get my spirit of love, highly doubt it. Am I glad I did it, yes. Am I glad it is all over, sadly yes.

They say giving is better than recieving. I think that is my motto for this day. I love it, many of you hate it. I used to try to bring you over to my side. But I think this year sealed the deal. It is still my world and all that matters is I am happy with the day even if others don't share my enthusiasm!! SO this is what being in my 30's means....I am ok I am me and you are you and we can all disagree together....

(hushed tones) but I am still right:)
