Halloween

Ah the day that is of mixed appeal. On one hand I of course LOVE LOVE LOVE the candy, the kids happily moving from house to house and event to event. But on the other hand I cannot forget all the TERRIBLE things that misguided people tend to do on that day. It leaves me praying under my breath on and off during the day, and weeks prior.
Nonetheless the weather was a tad cool, but clear and darn good for a Sunday celebration. Hubby and I taught in children's church first thing (Superkids for him and preschool 2-5 for me). Then grocery shopping and home for lunch, nap and rest. Promptly at 3:10 we headed out the door to SLFC harvest festival. I think Michael was just born the last time we made it there. Aunt Lisa met us and kindly purchased all the tickets the kids needed, except for kettle corn and a drink. #3 and #4 rode the dragon roller coaster worth exuberance, #1 rode these spinning bears, and #2 and Aunt Lisa the big octopus style ride. There were plenty of games to play too, Daddy even splurged for #1 to shoot paintball. The sun began to set and the temp started to drop so goodbye hugs and thanks were given and off to the trick or treating.
A light but still 20.00 White Castle stop before making our way to our old digs. This was a SPECIAL treat as Fast Food like this is rare. It was dark when we parked and headed on our way. Daddy's ankle was a challenge from his fall a week ago but he toughed it out. Yeah for taking one for the team. #4 did great, about 6 or 8 houses in she figured out to say trick or treat, well something close and thank you too. It did take her halfway through to understand you hold your pumpkin to the people so they can put in the candy. #1 and #3 were always 50 steps ahead, annoyed by being beckoned to come back. #4 stayed close to Mommy, and stopped to check out EVERY SINGLE Jack-o-lantern. We have NEVER carved pumpkins so she was trying to figure them all out. The best part was after the 3rd or 4th she turned to me and said, "Happy Birthday Mommy...pfffft." It was her attempt to blow the candle out. I cracked up and we sang Happy bday to me for several more houses. I guess next year carving will be on the agenda for family firsts.
All went perfect until we came to a spooky decorated house. The man answered the door in a Horror movie kind of costume and she wouldn't speak nor take his candy. We even ran into one of my old students. He is in high school now, man I cannot believe how much time has past!
2 pieces of candy for eating in the car, family prayer time while driving (#1 reminded Dad not to close his eyes to pray lol) brush teeth, pajamas, and off to bed to wrap up a festive busy night. Whew, I am always glad it is over. Now I will hunt down clearance deals, and maybe if I am lucky some extra candy corn to stash before it is all gone:).
