Ideas, expectations and plans gone awry
When my children are grown how will they describe their childhood? I mean the occasional raised voice, chores and nagging of cleanliness I am sure. But how will they describe my never ending plotting, organization of teaching character? The most recent plan is job expectations. I typed up personal lists for the Big 3 with what I expect of them each day. Hubby and I allotted 5 cents to each of #2 and #3's items, 10 cents to #1's. If they failed at all items they would be left with basically enough to cover savings, and tithe. But it worked for a day, I was hoping for the excitement to at least last the first week.
Alas, it is a good idea so I am gonna stick with it a bit longer. The thought is at a job you "should" be given a list of what you are to do and then raises etc are based on performance. Some things take time so check back.
I wish there was a magic wand to motivate internally external thoughts. Well here goes plan layer 2. This Christmas I am determined that we will move away from the notion of piles of presents under the tree, lists for the super amazing Aunts who buy for them and think of others. Besides the other silly traditions I have done from year to year this is my goal.
Jesus received 3 gifts from the wise men and likewise I want my kids to each think of 3 people whom they would not otherwise think of. I will match the money they spend, or assist in creating whatever they choose but I want them to do, make or buy something for that person. I hope to get them noticing the lives of others even if for just this moment. #1 has it in him, #3 is already in tune to others and #2 well she can do all things.
Pray for wisdom, and teachable moments as I suppose I will do the same thing too, finding three people to bless in a new way. I sent the kids list out to the family and hope to hear no more about it from the kids because Santa already has secured a pile of gifts under the tree as the sweet reward of their giving :)
