The whys
Yep my daughter with a expansive vocabulary at the age of two has reduced to this simple word..why. I recall each child moving through this stage and that it was/is in some way annoying. But nothing compares to the present and to yet another reminder of making no assumption on what people are really enduring. I lean to a been there, done that, and earned the badge feeling as I spend a decent amount of time with newer momma's living each day for the first time. But once again #4 smacks me beside the head with yeah ya know but isn't it even better this time?? One small example that I will admit had me smiling to share.
Scene 1: Moms enters daughters room where she is awake in her crib and ready to begin the day. Daughter is happy to see mother and smiles, says hello or virtually any greeting with a smile.
Mom (that would be me): Good morning beautiful (sing song like the country song).
2 1/2 year old daughter standing (#4): Hi Mom.
Mom: (deep sighs for the Mom word instead of mommy) Hello #4.
Child: Its not dark outside (in a tone that exhibits true amazement).
Mom: No it is morning.
Child: Why?
Mom: (while taking off child's pullup and getting dressed) The sun comes out after it sleeps just like you and me. (pretty sure the why makes no matter but she answers matter of factly just in case)
Child: Why? Mom: God created everything to rest or sleep.
Child: Why?
Mom: (attempts to answer but is interrupted)
Child: (touches mom's wet hair) Why is your hair wet?
Mom: (thankful for the topic change) because I took a shower.
Child: Why?
Mom: So I could be clean. Why? (before daughter can say it herself)
Child: Did daddy tell you to get clean?
Mom: (chuckles under breath and tried to remember that said child has no idea how sexist such a statement is).. Yep daddy told me to be clean.
END SCENE
Love the innocence. :)
