Plugged IN
WOAH, it seems things have gone out of control here.
In my home their really are more electronic devices than should be. 2 children own ipod touches, I with my EVO shift and 3 working computers, one being fixed. That does not count the ipod shuffles that preceded the ipod touches. Oh and don't forget the travel dvd players (3), the wii, the xbox 360, 2 DSi's and one 1 DS. Then we have a old handheld that I cannot remember the name of for Eva to mess around with and pretend to play. Next there are 4 tv's with which to watch and DVD players/VCR's too. I could go on but I think you are getting my point. My father seems to think that because they never allowed me to have anything but a tv, VCR (well cause DVD didn't exist) and a computer BEFORE internet that I have allowed my kids to own so much. On the other hand they had to raise their money to pay for DSi's and IPOD touches so I hardly get all the blame. There is something to be said about working to save for a big goal. The wii and Xbox were gifts we did not purchase and heck so were the tv's so I can breathe a bit easier for a second.
Regardless of how we acquired it all, there is so very much and it is beginning to overwhelm the household. Truly here I am first thing in the am trying to write this blog when I should be using the solace of electronic time kids to pray. I hereby promise that when I get off this I will head to my quiet place/shower/bathroom and do just that. Tomorrow I will try the other way around in fact too! I have to figure out a way to make us less dependant on such distractions. I mean I already limit the time a day the kids can do such. From about 7 am to 9pm my kids get about 5 hours which sounds like a HUGE amount typing it. So in 14hrs they get 5 which is less than half but too much too. Hmmm, the sad part is that I feel as though I should mostly abide by the same rules to set a good example and well I like my evening tv relaxing together as a family, plus my am freedom and nap time too. How much time a day are you plugged in?
To end my rant/vent with a funny note let me give you an outtake of my fireball who is way too smart for the rest of us in this house. I keep telling them they better be careful because she has ears to hear, eyes to see and a mind that will outwit them before the even notice.
Yesterday, she came in my room like most morning saying hello and (being plugged in too) looking for my phone. I created that monster with my use of it for distraction while shopping and keeping awake close to nap in the car. Funny how she will be almost asleep and then perk up to completely awake by the simple action of presenting the fancy phone. (it was my tax return present so see even I had to save for it).
Anyway, she asked where it was and this morning I was ahead of her and hid it. I said no, 3 yr old little girls need to play with toys not mommy's phone. Undeterred by my statement she left. I was aware this would not be the end. She like her mother is way to determined to let it go that easy. In the kitchen while making breakfast she approaches me again. This time she says, "Mommy where is your phone for you not me. I want to get it for you." Yep, I can outwit her now but look out when she figures out a bit more!
Lastly, to make this same point a notch more her sister had earned a Snickers bar treat at Cheer class. While sitting next to #4 she placed the half eaten bar under the carseat of #4, still out of her reach. #4 requested for a bite, hearing the answer no she retorts, " Look that way." (pointing to the window opposite of where the bar was sitting. Big sister looked at me shocked by the words and I laughed telling her look at now! We all got a good laugh and I am pretty sure #4 will soon do as her dad. Look there's a plane next to your window, LOL.
That is funny about #4's wit!I suspect we will have one of those in our house in a year or two as well!
