Here chick chick chick
If only I could place a sound bite to the title of this post, cause #4 sounds so ADORABLE saying those words every day.
The chicks are egg laying pets which has been long awaited. Sadly, the two little ones do lay pastel color eggs but they are the same color, an whitish easter green. They are also tiny eggs so it takes two to make one medium sized egg. But we will gladly take it.
Stormy was the first to lay. She is of course #1's chicken named because at the time of her adoption it was very stormy. Her first egg was located under the wicker furniture and then soon after she discovered the duck house. Even though there are 3 nesting boxes she still insists to lay here. She is also like clockwork and does her job between 8 and 9am. If I happen to be cleaning out the pen/house at that time she will pace back and forth urging me to hurry up.
Not too long after (approx 4 days) Rainy began laying also. She is #3's chicken and named assisted by big bro. The original choice was after cousin C which mommy overruled. 1 day after that one of the little chickens joined the heard and now I "think" all 4 are laying.
I requested hubby take a picture of them before cooking but well he is missing the first 3. The very first one we drained the egg out and kept the shell because G didn't know to put it in the fridge and it sat out all night. The other 2 were cooking as this was taken. Darn men!
If you can tell the 2nd from the left top row is a large brown egg compared to the rest. This egg was the 3rd or 4th egg that was laid by stormy and look what we found inside:
How cool is that?! A double yoked egg, twins if you will. everyone except #4 who is allergic reported no different taste in these eggs and the store. It is pretty cool to know exactly where your food comes from, that and not feel like you killed a pet to eat it either. No rooster= no chicks
Final thoughts for the night are this. The odd weather this year has left many marks around but one is an increase in spiders. I feel like Charlotte's Web nearly every day because a complex web is in my way. This time the spider was enjoying the fruit of his labor and well I couldn't bear to ruin his fun. Maybe tomorrow he will leave me a thank you note?
