Really great friends
Really great friends are not ones that need more than just to be a part of your life. They get you and love you even when you don't always agree. They are a listening ear, speak the truth in love and stand by you. They can be far away or very close but every time you talk it feels like you have known them your whole life.
I am a person who craves feedback, words, affirmation. I want people to take part in my life as I try to take part in theirs. Sometimes the demands of my children get in the way of being all I would like but well true friends get that too.
I am blessed by a select few people that I value as a real friend, a couple are from SLM, a few who are family and one who meets neither group. I am also blessed because those people surprise me with their thoughtfulness from time to time. A cherished new children's book which the kids and I make memories and enjoy. Snacks, or treats which I cannot regularly buy to also enjoy sharing and on and on.
But today's unexpected is an even rarer treat. Most of you reading this know I hate Hallmark cards as they feel impersonal. Something mass produced like that just doesn't cut it for me. A good old fashioned letter (ok e-mail, or comment) means SO much more and costs a lot less. I know some people spend hours looking for the just right card but while I appreciate that thought it doesn't change the way I feel. I have a SMALL and I mean tiny stash of cards that have something priceless written inside worthy of keeping. Today I received a surprise Hallmark card that fits in the keep for life make me smile category. I bet you can imagine why :)
