Giggles, Goggles

When I was a kid I clearlu remember my mother reading me this book and laughing away. What you see above is a one page summary of it. The real deal is many pages with silly pictures and is such an easy fun read for kids. I am inspired for a million classroom uses too. But I digress, she (my mother) had a way to be so completely silly sometimes it was easy to forget she was in charge.
Tonight my kids had a conversation that reminded me of this book and gave me a smile from ear to ear, and a HUGE does of laughter as the best medicine.

#1: G guess what I am doing tomorrow, (while sitting next to me because we are all riding together home from concert at school), Shhhhhhhh Mommy don't tell him anything (whispers).

G: What #1?

#1: (Announcing loudly shoulders back and chest pushed out full of confidence) I'm playing hooky!

#2: What game is that?

I begin laughing unable to control my reaction and the men in the very front of the van look at each other like men typically do when women or children talk anyway. This spurs a greater amount of laughter by me of which confuses the kids unaware of my observation. Common in people who are surrounded by such uncontrollable laughter they begin laughing too again making the men shrug shoulders, eye each other and ask What repeatedly.

I repeat what just happened to the confused ones and #2 not discouraged by the turning of the attention laughs her question out again.

I explain what #1 is referring to by playing hooky. The conversation continues...

#1: I wish I could do it sometime, play hooky.

#2: I have played hickey a lot.

All adults laugh at that statement, children succumb to the pressure and sure enough the entire car is full of giggles. I correct the pronunciation leaving out what a hickey is and on to something new the conversation rolls.
Kids are GREAT! Hope the book or this retelling gave you at least a small laugh.
