Green Acres is the place to be

Ah yes, here it is again. That time when I pretend to live on a farm and act like I have a clue about life like that. We may have 10 acres, a pond and lots of land for my husband to mow. We have horses on our property technically owned by my mother whom gladly lets my kids call them theirs. Foxy is the "bug" horse, a Quarter Horse and fits with the name of our road completely. Even though the kids may debate whose she is, at heart she is my mother's first. It was her 30th bday present, her ultimate dream of owning a horse fulfilled. 27 years short is her current age which is definitely up there for a horse. I do hope she hangs on a few years more because I don't want to imagine the emotional toil that will follow her demise.

But on to a happier topic, my stake on farm life. 3 chickens and a duck was my plan. It seemed perfect, 4 and no more kids so magic number 4 right? Well that and I could make up some silly punchline for the joke like setup it implied, lol. As with any other time best laid plans are meant to flexibility and so did mine. We are now the proud owners of 4 chickens, 2 normal brown egg layers and 2 pastel easter egg layers. Easily it became the boys chicks vs the girls chicks praying that they all will turn up to be girls, no roosters in the bunch. It will be another 2 weeks before we will be able to get baby ducks, yep I said plural. Timing is everything and it simply won't work out that we can put the chicks and ducks together for a bit so we will be getting 2 ducks. Most animals are not meant to be alone, ducks specifically. I suppose 6 is another number that works since there are 6 members of our family.
#2 knew her chicks name from the get go, Chloe. #3 said his was gonna be named Carson at first but changed it several times along the way. I am pushing for something a bit more unique than his cousin's name. #1 drumming to his own beat decided he would get to know his first and then decide on its name depending on what it was like, fast speedy etc. #4 told me it would be America or Ms Buchanon (#3's teacher) which she already has named her baby dolls. She also said Kayla (cousin) and Grace (#2's friend she likes). I am waiting them out a bit on those too.

Lined up in age order of owner, 1, 2, 3, 4

Everyone adjusted to holding the babies easily except #4 she was terrified and cried horribly. I assisted and she calmed a bit but not completely. Here's hoping the future gets brighter on that front. So, if you live nearby come on out and see our babies. They will live inside for the next 4-5weeks before they head out to their permanent outside home.
