Vacation observations
*Conserving water is just NOT gonna happen when my family is around!
I am pretty sure my kids have taken more baths and showers then in the entire month while here! We were "upgraded" to a room with a king sized bed and a shower for wheelchair needs. This basically means the entire bathroom is tile floor, contains a portable shower head and just plain kid fun. Post FREEZING swim I took with kiddos all three of us girls had a warm up party in the shower. #3 took his purchased rocket in the other room bath tub more times than I can document too.
* Disney is not for wimps should be one of their slogans
Getting to the parks when they open means taking the magical express bus and hour before start time, which means getting up EARLY! It is one thing to know this in your head, it is quite another to live it day in and day out. In hindsight though having the first hour or two in the park before the masses is totally WORTH it!
* Florida is NOT hot in January
Ya know I looked at the temps for Florida prior to arriving and never even thought about checking out the lows. Lows DUH! After all the high is only for a couple hours a day where as the low, well it takes a while to get from the low to the high. Honestly I could have dressed just the same as at home here. This also meant that hubby was kind enough to do a load of wash saving me from suffering in shorts.
*My children are still just kids
In public places kids are completely unaware of others: walking in front of groups, not noticing picture takers, being captivated by characters and bumping in to things, AND my favorite wearing their clothes backwards unintentionally. Yep, #1 he wore his shorts backwards all day and #2 she put her pajama top on backwards and inside out. They crack me up! I love their sweet innocence even if it only pops up intermittedly.
*Being 11 and 9 still means you think girls/boys are curious but uncomfortably not into them YET
Being at Disney means there are several channels with Disney movies/shows. One in particular is about a boy who is 10 and a girl. The boy is in Marshall Arts and strikes an amazing resemblance to my dear oldest son. Listening to the banter amongst the kids sure tells me a lot about what they think. It is good to hear. Plenty of time for things to change ahead. Course #2 was giddy with the innocent hand holding, and discussion of kissing thoughts. She is probably the one to be most worried about!
*Sickness has no mercy
Littlest baby girl is sick...S I C K. She had a runny noise when we left but it was too small to notice. Time moved on and it ran more and more. Until finally Sunday night she was up a whole lot coughing and with a clearly obvious fever. I was never so glad to have been intelligent and made time to nap Sunday. Adult ibuprofen was all we had so splitting those by hand we keep watch. She needed it every 4-5 hours but made it pretty well throughout the day. But then she fell asleep at 7pm and awoke at 9 bright red from head to toe and so hot I was contemplating what to do next. After hubby retrieved children's med from shop and taking her out of multiple covers and layers of clothes she seemed to get better. She even made it through the night in her own bed with #1. Today wasn't much better, she got weak when meds wore off and took longer to recover when she took them. She did however throughly enjoy all the characters. Thankfully she had enough energy to do tumbling tricks on the lawn with siblings even after spitting up multiple times some drainage. She of course made sure all of us knew she 'threw up" as if it were a badge of honor.
*All good things must come to an end
After 6 days of vacation it is the beginning of the end. Time to pack back up and prepare to go back home tomorrow night. Although I am good with being done at Disney I am not sure I am ready to be thrown back into the reality of hurry to school, work, activities etc. Actually I am not ready to worry about feeding my crew ie cooking. This has been awesome to not cook even if that means it is mostly the same kinds of food. Alas, this is life and I am more than grateful for this much needed reprive!
