My oldest son #1 affectionately called here has a tender heart for God. He is keenly aware of the spiritual realm at times more than most. As Easter has approached he searched through our house for a special Easter movie. It has 2 excellent stories on it. The first adds a story of a group of children during the times of Christ. It is a cartoon style animation and shows the factual events but in a way that grasps kids attention AND shows the underlying concept of how the crowds of people could be persuaded to crucify Christ. Then there is a second part called The Witness which I liken to an adolescent version of The Passion. It is graphic for a kid, not inappropriate but gripping and real. Last year #1, #2 and my niece Kayla watched it and they all cried. We all need reminders of the reality in the reason for this time.
Last night we watched the first movie in honor of Good Friday. Too much of our day was spent on other things and not family and God. But we ended it the right way. I hope to watch the other part Sunday and make this a tradition too. #1 was singing the songs, though #2 despised that. It melted my heart because he really gets it even if he doesn’t always get other things.
I pray that this year starts a spring board for appropriate and meaningful traditions in the future.
