A day in the life of Evangelene

Yesterday was a jam packed Evangelene day. She awoke with a bang chattering away in her bed. Daddy was home so he made a rare wake up call first. Walking into the room he questioned, "Who do I hear talking in here...you?" She replied, "No. It's my boyfriend," in her most matter of fact tone. Shocked by such a un 3 year old like remark he went on to inquire where this boyfriend actually was. She retorted that he was under her pillow but ran away. All smiles he repeated this conversation to me adding that he may be switching her double windowed main floor bedroom with her brother's main floor but walk out basement side room for smaller chance of this ever truly happening. Yes friends, I was a smart cookie too and I am trying to stay abreast of her every move. Whew, I have my work cut out for me, huh? :) Then at school they had a fire drill, unbeknownst to me she rambled on and on about a loud noise that hurt your ears and a fire at school. Details about going...

Game day and other fun stuff too

Corny smile Today was #3's first ever game of flag football. Now considering that is the one and only sport my husband regularly watches it should have been a thought that one kid plays but it wasn't. I guess since hubby typically relied on me to do the whose plays what when thing it never came up. But the idea seemed worthwhile when I heard my nephew C man was doing it too. Signing up late meant we missed the first practice in the 8 week ordeal but it didn't matter. #3 jumped in like he had been coached for years and picked it right up. First half he played defense. He never made a successful stop on a player but he came close more than once and gave it all he had. The second half he played offense and he was given the ball every play they made. He even made a full field touchdown running complete from one end to the other. It was amazing to see. There was a tense moment when he slowed because a person was near and tried to grab his belt (flags) but he made it. I scre...

My sidekick and me

Doing what she loves My sidekick and me  My sidekick and me Whom with few others I would rather be                She leaps in the grass Tonight washing our faces Her retorts have such sass My sidekick and me My sidekick and me There was many a day in the beginning of her stead where I would dread her arrival Yet all that aside, she is steadily by my side regardless of the thick or thin My sidekick and me She had to do it exact In my arms as often as she can My sidekick and me A precious life God gave Exactly as I dreamed this would be He knew her name, her every piece and part well before I could see He entrusted her to me, despite my groaning and initial pain How ever will I be the same without my sidekick with me My sidekick and me She encompasses all that I have dreamed, loved and known Who ever could explain how the last is nothing the same And yet everythin...

Let's get ready for some FOOTBALL and other stuff

Today was a very hurry, rush, stop, enjoy, RUSH, jump through hoops, stop, hurry again day. I suppose the first day after a 3 day weekend is like that but since I am still a returning back to work lady I have to pick myself back up again, shake the dirt off and keep truckin on. OF COURSE hubby was on duty since one would expect my hurdles to be 10ft instead of 2ft high. Being more than capable puts me there too. THANKFULLY G-ma was gracious enough to transport 2 out of the 4 kids to their activities even if she didn't bring them straight home to shower and bath before 8pm like I would have wished. I still am thrilled with her generosity of time. BEFORE I could get home to start the figure out food get back out ordeal I had to catch the frog to free at home. No real surprise that all day I was doubly careful when kids looked at them to not let it jump out yet when I myself tried to catch it, it got out. I am surprised no one came running from my muffled girlish yelps as it hopped ...

2nd chances

2001 was the year I became an employed teacher. It was my first year and what is always true of first time anything I made more than a few cardinal mistakes. I can't say any of them made a lifelong mark on the children I interacted with but they changed me. Today I was reminded of one of those lessons. Round 1 Since I am a teachers assistant in the am for K-4 which involves typical copies, cutting out and other tedious tasks it also included fluency testing, small group instruction and other more "teacher" like activities. The principal has commented about how I am too good to waste several times and 4 of the teachers have also said how they are going to use me as another teacher and not just a copier because I am so wonderful. It is good to know I have managed to show my worth in such a very short time. In the afternoon I actually plan and teach Science, Soc Studies and Art. Art is an interesting one because well I am no artist but it is first grade and I can handle...

lefts, wrongs and a few rights along the way

Image
Go lefty! School and siblings may have led my naturally heading towards being a lefty to the Right land of life but there is one place they haven't managed to infect..... baseball. I noticed it the last few times we played that she would use her left more than her right but today it was constant. She maintained her glove on the right and threw with the left as accurate as any 3 year old is (50/50). When it came time to hit she couldn't seem to understand batting right handed and I finally stopped sister from helping to flip her around. Wallah! She hit the first ball. I will say I was proud, snickered because lefty Aunt Lisa whom she already adores would love it and then bummed because this may mean I will have to buy a new pink glove for a lefty. No worries, I will hold off on that to see where she really ends up but either way is at that innocent adorable even in the worst of times stage. As for the older bunch... well the age of accountability has arrived. I have ...

My glorious Saturday

Today began a 3 day weekend, the first I have enjoyed since I began working. I remember now how having a job means any day off is most precious time. This particular break comes with a double whammy in that hubby is home for 2 out of the 3 days. Woohoo! Obedient kind youngest son of mine even closed our bedroom door allowing us to sleep in past him AND #4. This is a milestone since previously she would come pouncing in asking for a drink and waking up the entire household. Hearing their commotion I got up and decided to get my run in, it felt great. I prayed the first half and jammed the second. God first is definitely the way to begin. We all cleaned the house and did various chores until we were interrupted (a welcome one) by Daddy who found a snake skin in the pond. Yes folks we live in the country! International spy (apparantly bad with her crew) #1 who is determined to win Nap time, dinnertime and international spy time see left. #2 drew up a map where they could find...
