As birthdays go....
As birthdays go this one did not top the list. While it started off fairly nice, quiet time to complete personal devotions and opening of a few prebirthday presents (as in delivered prior to today). BUT then from the world's view it all went downhill, missing staff lunch at one job and then drinks etc at another. Good thing my outlook isn't based on circumstances and emotions alone. Instead as I made my 4 to 5 time a week run I reflected on all that had gone correct. First, I missed the PTL delivered drinks but did get there in time for the monthly birthday treats. Not only that but my sweet class insisted I don't look in the room when I headed to my office then showered me with hugs and birthday cards at class time. ( I teach half the day gifted and resource then half with 1st graders while the morning teacher is asst principal). Then I recalled the highlight of the week.
Facebook can be silly with so much unnecessary information, but then again it can be a window into people's lives with whom you may not otherwise see regularly. In this case it was of a former student's mom who helped me a great deal while she was in my classroom. Not only that but the student has been and still is very successful in the dance world and it feels like a window into my not so distant future. Needless to say she has been experiencing many lasts in child rearing as her youngest son is headed into high school. I currently own a special book that hits the nail on the head regarding lasts and got the bright idea to buy and deliver to her. Here is her Facebook post after receiving such gift the day before my birthday.

This is what its all about. This got me thinking that the giving high if you will could be a regular part of my life. I mean why can't I spend a little bit of time each week doing anything that would be uplifting to someone else I know. Not only that but why can't my kids and I take a moment to complete a random act of kindness each week too?
As if my thought process wasn't enough then I come across this blog entry and am jealous I wasn't ahead of the game instead of behind. 35th birthday post
Obviously I am not the only one who feels like 35 deserves something new and different. I did think of this before I knew she did though:
Anyway, tonight when my son expected a "treat" for his DARE graduation it hit me that my kids NEED this. While celebrated our lives is great it isn't required to get something just for doing what you already do. DARE required nothing more out of him than any other subject in school. Plus, it was MY birthday and not once did he do anything out of the ordinary to celebrate me. Yep, I need to teach humility and acts of service for others while the window is still open in his eyes. After all he will be 12 in less than 2 months. I am not sure when the next level of separation and growth begins but I am sure it is nearer than far.

After my run my husband presented me with a beautiful jewelry box I requested for Mother's day and birthday. While he attempted to make me a birthday cake (forgetting I really do not like cake, nor chocolate cake at all) I opened an envelope from my birthday Aunt. (She and I share our birthdays). Inside instead of simply a signature there was a small token of a treat.. Such a sweet thoughtful gift it was too. I am well loved by many, not all but more than I need. I am learning and growing as a mom, wife, and person too. There are so many years ahead to fulfill my destiny too. Life really is pretty darn good, NOT perfect and not without room for complete trust in God to meet our needs. But I am blessed and so I shall learn to be an even greater blessing day by day.
