Boys and Girls and Names

In this past week my oldest son now 10 has had 2 different friends over to spend the night. Each of these times begin the very new trek down the road of interest in the opposite sex for my daughter and niece. Both boys were greeted by giggly girls, chasing games and wrestling for affection. The first arrived early in the day and caused many the games during lunch, in the pool and within the parameters of the house. Tough girl techniques employed, mostly by my niece. Talking smack about who was stronger than whom. I so know that one. I was that tomboy like girl who had a gang of girls "catch" my boy of interest and hold him for me to "beat up".
My daughter she is the typical beautiful blond. She plays hard to get, attracts attention in high pitched squeals and remarks from across the room or across the couch. She isn't afraid to push and shove a little but is NOT going for the take down/pin to the ground style. That is more my niece. I was grateful for the break when the first friend went home. I also had yet another moment of many children realization. Sons and daughters close in age does equal more attentive behavior on my part. I mean I can recall being interested in a friends brother or two along the way myself. Hmmm rethinking my daughter and son having rooms downstairs where I am not.
Tonight was the 2nd of friends sleepover. Since his arrival was dinnertime it was easier to manage. Plus this boy is only 8 rather than 9 nearing 10. I think he had just as much fun playing Star Wars with C and #3 as he did being around the girls. Tomorrow may be different but again consider my eyes open on this front.
Now on a completely different note #1 said something too funny not to share. I borrowed a tent from a friend in anticipation of camping out that now will not happen. In the discussion of it today I mentioned this friend's names I Wrainbeau (rainbow) spelling it for them too. They all began asking and chatting. I know my friend will find no surprise in that. #2 liked the name enough to say if she had it she would want it to be spelled the familiar way. Cousins debated their own different names until the conversation stopper by #1. He simply and most matter of factly said, "If we picked our names then it would probably be gagababbbba because that is the first thing you know how to say." What on earth do you say to that?
A classic #1 statement for sure.
ReplyDeleteHe is too funny with his quirky, out of left field comments. Cannot wait to hear more entertaining stories about opposite sex interactions.
ReplyDeletelol no matter where i go my name procedes me. I never know whether this is a good thing or a bad thing but whatever it is i know that it will be an icebreaker for sure.
