Father's day outakes and more
Since my hubby works 24hr shifts on a rotating schedule, and well Firefighters are needed 365 days a year he works all kinds of special days. Some of them matter more than others for "family time" but it is par for the course. This year like last year he was/is on duty father's day. In honor of that, and well this year his gift was a brand spankin new grill it had to be presented early. Thanks to a major thunderstorm I ended up home and not at a garage sale like planned. Daddy was taken a bit back by the present and will not receive demerits for his initial reaction, "So what will I get tomorrow." with a pretty ridiculous grin of course. His next question was how much did that cost and let me tell you it will end up costing me oops us 100.00. I worked out a couple deals courtesy of a fellow SLM momma Sandie and got some extra free stuff. Some of the free stuff being food, and when deducted from the price it saves me 80.00 Woohoo for that! Our grill bit the dust at least a month or more ago anyway so it was a worth while expense.
I did get an opportunity to leave my child filled home with my mom and Annabeth for some resale dropping off and shopping. I have to say it was such an amazing time. We all tried on several outfits, the giddy expressions of my 8yr old daughter made it worth the 20.00 for 3 beautiful dresses I allowed her to buy. That is the wonderful thing about maturing, recognizing that tithing, saving and budgeting are important but sometimes you just need to spend a little for a lot. This was one of those times I made her day. Later #3 reminded how I said he would get a mom/son day sometime too. Larger families need separate time too. I pray that when my kids are grown they remember their childhood as balanced in that way.

Lastly, this evening I instructed each child to make G and Papa's cards. #1 is notorious for barely putting any effort into his cards and causing a lengthy discussion about the point of the occasion and proper card etiquette. Not today though, upon my "checking" for completion I was thrilled with his word choice. That is until I read the second card which was an exact duplicate of the first. Good thing the two men won't be sharing notes. Daddy hears my encouraging words and reads them also. Only this time he catches a very important detail I missed. Check it out for yourself. More than likely you noticed what I missed.
Yep, you read that right. He wrote Happy Birthday. But the kicker is when I turned to the child (zoning on Parking Wars show hubby had on) he quickly looked at Daddy and said, "Oh, Happy Birthday Daddy. (looks back at tv). It is only when I start cracking up that he recognizes his error and laughs himself. That is my oldest son, I really must pray for his wife now. She will need to be organized, thorough and PATIENT! LOL!!
LOL it's kind of like a birthday you get presents, it's a special day just for dads, and people work hard to make you feel special.
