The moment came and I took a pass
Since about November #1 has been getting therapy for his remaining physical weakness. It is exciting to see what can happen when someone who knows about the workings of the body teaches him how to use his. Anyway, this particular day it was just the two of us on the trip to and fro. Sad but true fact that car rides with him right next to me end in my blanking out a little. Star Wars this and that talk gets a bit much. I did choose the right moment to remind him of conversation rules and overtaking the subject matter. We shall see, I didn't dwell just threw it out there for digestion.
On the way home I allowed him to play games on my new once a year selfish pleasure, internet friendly phone. I enjoyed random flipping of the music and belting out the words. But somewhere between the Oberweiss treat and milk for #4 stop and home he blurted out the following statement. "Magic is real Mommy because Santa uses it so the reindeer can fly." Hmmm, how do I respond? He is in fact 10, well 10 1/2 just 5 months from 11. It could be time to know the real truth, not the he isn't real but it is the spirit of what he stands for that is real. But is it time? In my head I argued that was the moment, it was my chance but well I just couldn't bear to do it. I couldn't tell if I was hearing from my momstinct on this one or not.
He went on to explain that many people don't think he is real, and stupidly I added how no one we know has seen God but we know he is real, or the wind. He delved into the science of wind and air not being seen and then I felt pangs of guilt. I really didn't want to lie to him, or add to a deceitful experience. Did I just miss my chance to prove honesty? I mean I would hate to tell him wrongly and lose the trust of what I say? Oh wow how difficult dear Santa has turned out to be. Then again this really represents the innocence of childhood and the destruction of this myth means he is not my baby anymore. He will carry this truth too which is the hardest thing he may have ever carried. He is not my keep secrets kid, can he handle something this big with his siblings? I am not so sure of that fact for sure.
Day after day he reminds me of his impending manhood. Still while driving he said that when we win the lottery ( I love his certainty) all the boys will get Ferrari's. Ha, such a boy thing to say. To further that desire he brainstormed a phnemonic to remember the thought. A= All G= Good B=Boys F=Ferrari's, all good boys get ferarri's.
While watching Avatar he even ate radishes with salt just like Daddy, and with #4 too. I see more and more boy and less and less sweet precious little child. *sigh* Teenage years are gonna be interesting in more ways than one since it seems #1 and #2 pass through most phases of emotional growth at the same time.
Yet all this heavy thoughts were set aside when he popped up and said, "It should be illegal to tear down hills because where would you sled then?" LOL, there is my sweet Joey. I am so glad to be his mom.
