Girls, boys and a little dose of hormones
Last Summer #1 had a few friends over a time or two. While visiting I noticed a change in the way #2 interacted, giggly and pumped up to be "cool" along with equal in strength. K my niece, was not pulled in to the scene until much later in the mix but her play it cool role became just that, part of a game. Although it shouldn't have surprised me then it did. Mentally I did not suspect this behavior just yet. Course with #1 as my oldest some maturing things tend to be a bit later. He doesn't really care about girls like that, yet. #2 has pretended to be kisses in her playtime so enough said on that.
Tonight #1 had a boy over to spend the night. Somewhere in the fun times #3 and he began to wrestle. #2 was inspired and joined in somehow managing to be the sole partner at several intervals. Hmmm, I better be ever present the rest of the night on that note. Post Star Wars episode when the entire house stops there was a moment for #2 to change into her swimming suit top (not bikini so it covered her whole chest) and a pair of Capri's rolled up since dear momma hid all the shorts. Changing clothes not so unusual but this well pretty sure it was boy inspired.
Nervous about bedtime because her room in downstairs and next to #1's. That is close quarters for me to be far away. #3 saved my concerns because he asked if she could sleep in his room and she agreed. Thanks for that one dear son!
This is just one of many opportunities to come for me to stay on my toes regarding growing kids. I was not prepared for this yet at all! Mom's of daughters and son's near the same age beware!!

thakfully mine aren't near the same age :D No instead I have to be a detective and try to ferret out what she's NOT telling me. Like this weekend when her and some friends wanted to go downtown to the city museum which would have been fine except then I found out they wanted to be out till 1 a.m. and on top of that there would be no parental chaperones, and of course there would be boys there!! Really?! this is situation number 2 in the past two weeks where she's tried to sneak staying out late with no parents and boys present..so yeah it gets really interesting the older they get! I also seem to be the only parent that asks questions about where they are going, when they will be back, who is all going to be there, which parents are chaperoning, will there by boys there and if so how many and what are their names...I have a checklist now..lol..questions to get clearance on before Andrea is allowed out of the house with her friends. It's stupid but it has to be done or else how do you know where your 14 year old is, what their doing and what kind of influence they are hanging around with.
ReplyDeleteI often feel I am the only one who checks up and has expectations and that is now, how much more later. Not stupid because her life is at stake every time she leaves that house!
ReplyDeleteExactly and I often wonder where are these other kids's parents that they just let thier teenagers stay out this late without an adult? Surely they can't be just ok with it? Maybe that's just me though..I know i would never allow my teenager to be out past 10 without an adult chaperone let alone out that late with friends whose parents seem to care less where they are.
