Mommy moments
Tonight my kids said some interesting things:
#1 informed me no one in his class believes in Santa. I said it is a choice. Then I asked him if they get presents from Santa. He didn't know but wasn't going to ask either. Social consequences are a BIG issue for him. It clearly is uncool to believe. I asked him how he felt and he said he believes. But I sense the uncertainty. Part of me wanted to be real with him, to explain the magic in the belief system of it all. But then part of my was unsure where it would go from there. Could he really handle the magnitude of such information in relation to his siblings? In that moment between the 2 of us, the other 2 big kids happily singing etc in the back seat I think he was ready. But once home I am not completely sure. He said he knows it isn't me because the handwriting is not the same. Whew! Good thing I know how to differentiate:)
#2 debated and determined that I in fact was born in 1987. Woohoo to her thinking I am 23, although she did say she knew I was 33. Darn it to math facts huh! She also was reserved and quiet on the ride to dance. Her and I jamming to the music loudly, holding hands. She can be so chatty at times, but more often keeps to herself when offended, or frustrated. On the ride home I learned the problem was she left dinner unfinished and cautioned that it meant no treats with me. She was hungry and thought she couldn't eat. When I suggested she eat and orange (cuties are a HUGE hit this time of year) the talkative daughter I once knew appeared. We discussed homeschool vs public school too.
#4 while reading a book we had never read before began to make up her own story. Or rather she began to guess at the story, which includes the common story line of one person getting in trouble, hitting another and heading to time out. She does this with her babies and horses often too. The details of each pretend interaction is amazing. Time of day, location and circumstance is all included in the dramatization. I am in awe of that little girl. Whoever tells me she will not remember Disney at 3 1/2 next year is lying. If she can describe her falling down the stairs more than 8 months ago to the tee missing NOTHING, not her exact steps prior, during and before then she will in fact remember meeting Mickey Mouse in the flesh.
#3 at bedtime wanted to sing a song. Our song has always been My Little Sunshine and he chorused it with me. How precious a time standing next to his bed, snuggled together since it is equal height and gazing in each others eyes. That little man is gonna win a lucky girls heart someday!
I am SUPER blessed ya'all!!. I hope each and every one of you has a piece of this joy this week too.
PS Recital time for 3 out of the 4 kids and even me is coming on Sat. Look for that post hopefully Sunday too:)
