winter break blahs

It is the time of year that I loathe and love all wrapped together. I LOVE the break from driving to school, the early rush schedule and the after school activities too. I am excited about the creative things I plan for the children that invade my home yet when they do they make me..well tired. Lunch is pretty much like all summer, frustrating and busy. The rest of the day is filled with group time and work for me. I rarely sit for a moment to just be but instead find the day flying by. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade it really but it funny how no matter how many times you go through something you still forget exactly what being "in it" right now felt like. Ya know when you are pregnant and uncomfortable, or in labor and painful. OR new mom with a baby keeping you up at night, or a nonstop baby who has no ability to understand no OR on and on. We all forget the specifics and remember pieces. The mind is just that forgetful. It isn't possible to hold on to it all detail after detail. Who really wants to?
Anyway, such goes the days with 8 kids in my house. Today marks the last for some time if ever except random friends visiting which is NOTHING like babysitting. I am relieved at the return to 6 kids tomorrow with a husband home to boot. Monday will be just my 4 and then Tuesday down to #4 and me. Crazy how that will shock my system after a day or two too. This will be the case until summer comes which will be another roller coaster of fun. I am and always will be of that precious opportunity. These kids will NEVER forget me in their lives. My dream as an Aunt has absolutely come true.
But tonight in my first quiet evening of 4 kids no husband, cousin or family till after bedtime (yeah for girl talk then) I am instead doing my every couple month search on Facebook for one of the last people I randomly wonder about. My dear friend Joe Smith, yes real name not made up was the other person whom I did find first. He was a real confidant and such a sweet guy despite his ability to get sucked in to wrong choices by his "buddies". The other person is Christopher Abbott. Yeah not a made up name either. I sure manage to pick the common there. He was practically my first puppy love of sorts. My parents ridiculous in their idea of me and dating really never even knew him. They forbid me to date till 16, but that was too late. I managed to date much before then and after. After we broke up and he moved away I became close to his little "step" sister and even his other younger sister who moved here too. His family was a true blessing to me. His dad even the epidemy of what I always thought a true gentleman should be. He was not tall in stature very different from Chris who was 6ft. Yet his southern accent (being from Alabama) and his genuine attitude towards woman and life captured me. He had my utmost respect and probably aided my appeal to Chris. Chris was a typical teenage boy and while I did chat with him a time or two just before being married lost touch. He will always be a part of my past that I treasure fondly. The last time I saw him was when his stepsister died of cancer 6 maybe 7 years ago. He was not attached and back here for a time. I send his dad and step mom a Valentine's card every year I remember too per their request.
I think I found him and sent a message to confirm since the pic made it hard to tell. We are not as young as we once were and do age. How sad is that? Reality does bite like that. I do hope it is him, I also hope he has found the love of his life and I can see pics of his kids. It would be sweet to see his happy ending. Who knows but right now #1 is of course in the Wii zone and the other 3 playing their own imaginary game. All is right with the world, at least for this moment here.
