At the top of a momma's scare list
Every mom has a few set things that she doesn't ever expect or want to happen to her, or really anyone she knows. Besides the death of their child, disappearing is right up there. Thank God that it is through my faith in him I do not live in constant fear of such things, but well in a rare moment the thought enters. This morning was one of those moments. This morning was new because she did not disturb me in any way. Instead she apparently went to her big brother who in his haze ignored her, mostly. She turned off her music, and fan then took off her "diaper" as she calls it (pullup) and the best part turned on her bright light. When I awoke to go to the restroom, an unusual thing for me in the middle of the night, I noticed the blinding light. Shaking my head, assuming she was playing in her room like I actually told her, I finished what I needed to do and made my way to her room. To my shock, she was not only missing from her room but nowhere to be seen or heard.
It was then I grabbed my phone, sensing to oddity of the situation. Turning off her light so dear brother across the hall could uncover his sweet head, I made my way downstairs. It was light enough outside at 5:30 am for her to be playing with the ducks. It also wouldn't be too far of a leap for her thoughts.
Downstairs the door where the duck/chicken food is located was open. Score I thought but nope she was not in there. The basement door including dead bolt was still locked so she clearly didn't exit, nor did anyone else exit (cause yep that was going through my mind, calmly but present). I checked out the siblings sleeping downstairs, I even crawled near to check completely in their beds for a sleeping sister. No such luck! Next I headed back upstairs to scan outside for her, the garage door which I do not believe she can open was still closed. I am certain I would have heard her do that but you never know.
At this point I am debating calling someone (neighbors/parents) because I do not know where else to look. I don't want to frighten anyone but what is a mom to do? One last time I open all closets and rescan every room including my own. It is at that point when something caught my eye between the couch and the wall. How I noticed I am not sure because the wall is not too far off the color of her pj's. There she lies, sound asleep with her baby doll at her head in the small space. She was completely out and when I took the picture with the phone she only rolled over bumping her head on the wall and that was it. I decided to leave her there pretty sure moving her required more skill than I had at the moment, AND would lead to an argument about returning to sleep. Of course my heart was racing so much I found it nearly impossible to return to sleep myself. AH yes, the joys of parenting!
Once she was awake for the day I asked what happened. She said, "It was bright outside and you said I could get up." Umm not exactly how I expected it to work out. Funny enough I was sure she would go climb in bed with siblings and not bother me from the get go. Here's to her understanding the new ground rules. If not I think turning the door knob around so she must stay in her room will have to be next. I hate the safety hazard that presents but the randomly running around the house knowing how to unlock the door to get out is the worse of the two evils!
Yep, my 4 and no more proved yet again why she has established it is the end. 4 kids and still learning about the parenting gig!
